What is Cottagecore Design Style?

Ah, May. We're pushing past most of those April showers and getting ready for May flowers.

And vacations again!

Yep, after a year of heavy social distancing and quarantine-like circumstances, most of us are preparing to re-enter society, and that means vacations! Airbnb has declared 2021 to be The Year of Meaningful Travel, and I have to agree. As we're all cashing in our travel vouchers and planning our next getaway, I thought it was the perfect time to tell you about another dreamy decor trend that's been growing in popularity, Cottagecore.

Cottagecore is going off the grid in the loveliest of ways. Think Snow White at the Dwarf's cottage. The movement - oh, yeah, it's a whole movement - is a combination of the fairytale cottage design style combined with the modern-day crafting movement. After the rise in fairytale-inspired movies, books, and video games, interest in cottage-inspired decor has grown. Couple that with a year spent indoors and a ton of crafting, the movement has gained popularity. One YouTuber describes it by saying, "imagine a world where the fruit is always fresh and ready to be baked into a pie". Indeed!

Picture yourself walking through a field of wildflowers and approaching a wifi-free, dreamy little house in the woods. Inside it's quaint, just enough room for you and a few of your closest friends or family, and covered in flowering vines. There is a shelf full of those old-fashioned paper books, a soft, well-worn sofa for reading (or knitting). The beds are snug and covered with handmade quilts. There's a china cabinet with real china! And then you notice, out in the backyard, a beautiful picnic table covered in sweet and savory foods. THAT is Cottagecore.

Don't worry; this trend doesn't have to mean complete isolation. We did enough of that in 2020. There are several Cottagecore Airbnb's available for your next vacation or mini-break. These rentals give you a touch of privacy with nearby cities or attractions to satisfy your social fix. Of course, this might also be the right style for that Cape Cod you just purchased. I can see this trend overtaking the nautical style for beach houses.

If you think this might be your style, or you're just curious about what this looks like IRL, check out my Cottagecore Pinterest board here, or schedule a Design Consultation today. I love helping homeowners find their perfect style.
