Hot Trends in Outdoor Decorating
/I was 5 years old when my family moved houses for the first time. My parents hired a real estate agent, and after he took down their list of house wants, he asked me what I wanted in a new home. I confidently told him I wanted a pool. As an adult, a swimming pool is still very high on my list of must-haves for a new home. And apparently, I’m not the only one. Since the start of the pandemic, the installation of swimming pools has increased by about 25%.
Now that the weather is warming up, and we’re all looking forward to socializing outside again, you’re probably working to create your own outdoor oasis. That’s why I’m devoting today’s post to all the hot trends in outdoor decorating.
Get comfortable. Goodbye, folding lawn chairs, and hello outdoor sectionals. To create that perfect outdoor space, make sure the furniture is comfortable and beautiful. Nobody wants to sit outside for hours in a rickety chair or backless picnic bench. We’re looking for higher-quality pieces to support us for an afternoon reading session or an evening with friends.
Upgrade your plants. We’re done planting boring bushes. Americans have moved on to strategic planting, creating native gardens (which focus on plants that are native to your area), as well as food and medicine gardens. And it doesn’t stop with what we’re planting; homeowners have started composting to boost their plant life.
Water it. As mentioned above, pools are having a moment right now. But so are outdoor showers and baths, and fountains. If you can’t afford to do anything significant, consider adding one of these easy-to-maintain stock tank pools.
Light it. Homeowners are investing in some good quality lighting for the outdoor spaces so they can relax well into the evening. Of course, you can save money on wiring and fixtures by adding a fire pit or solar lights. Pass the marshmallows, please!
Protect yourself. From the elements that is. You can add drama and style to covered porches and patios by adding outdoor curtains in a fade-resistant fabric. Likewise, a bright, patterned sun umbrella is the perfect addition for lounge seating and dining areas. And suppose you’re really investing in your space. In that case, Amazon sells pergola kits that can be delivered directly to your front door.
So tell me, now that the weather is warming up, which of these trends is your favorite? How will you upgrade your outdoor spaces? Let me know in the comments below.
